According to information from the Vietnam Trade Office in the United Kingdom, on January 14, 2026, the UK Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) officially announced the initiation of a review of tariff-rate quotas applied to certain steel products currently subject to safeguard measures.
This move comes as the existing safeguard measures on steel products are scheduled to expire in June 2026.
The current review focuses on two main product groups, with the objective of considering the removal of specific commodity codes from the scope of the safeguard measures.
Group 4 – Metal-coated steel: The specific commodity codes proposed for removal include several codes under headings 7210.61 and 7210.69.
Group 7 – Quarto plate steel: The specific commodity codes proposed for removal include several codes under headings 7208.51 and 7208.52.
To ensure their legitimate interests, enterprises and relevant stakeholders are advised to pay close attention to key timelines and regulatory requirements.
Period of Investigation (POI): The review data will cover the period from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025.
Registration deadline: Interested parties (including exporters, importers, foreign governments, etc.) must register to participate no later than January 25, 2026.
All submissions and registrations must be made through the TRA’s Trade Remedies Service system.
In response to policy changes from the UK market, the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam (Ministry of Industry and Trade) recommends that the Vietnam Steel Association and enterprises producing and exporting relevant products, particularly coated steel and steel plate, carefully review the HS codes of their exported products to determine whether they coincide with the codes proposed for exclusion from the safeguard measures.
At the same time, if relevant interests are identified, enterprises should complete registration within the prescribed deadline to protect their legitimate rights and interests.
Proactively monitoring information and participating in the review process will help Vietnamese steel enterprises maintain and optimize their competitive advantages in the UK market.
