On the sidelines of the 2023 Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) taking place in Vladivostok, Russian Federation,
TTXVN's reporter in Russia interviewed Mr. German Maslov, Deputy Chairman in charge of the shipping and
logistics department of FESCO Maritime Transport Group.
In 2022, the company launched a direct sea transport route between Vietnam and the port of Vladivostok in the Russian
Far East, opening the Eastern Window for Vietnamese goods to quickly access the Russian market.
In the interview, Deputy Chairman Maslov mentioned that the direct cargo transportation route between Vietnam and
Vladivostok commenced operations last year. Initially, the route operated with one ship, but since July this year, there have
been three container ships operating with a frequency of one trip per week. As a result, the transportation time from Ho Chi
Minh City and Hai Phong ports to Vladivostok, and vice versa, has been reduced from 10-12 days to 7-8 days.
This transport route is performing very well, having transported about 20,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). An unusual
feature is that the volume of goods transported is balanced in both directions. Out of these 20,000 TEUs, approximately 2,000
TEUs are containers transported from Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, and others through Vietnam. Thus,
it can be said that FESCO has turned Ho Chi Minh City port into a transshipment hub for goods from Southeast Asian countries
to Vladivostok.
Regarding FESCO's upcoming plans, Mr. Maslov mentioned that the corporation has recently started operating a direct transport
route connecting Chinese cities to St. Petersburg in Northeastern Russia through the Suez Canal, using six new ships with a capacity
of 2,500 TEUs each. Therefore, Vietnamese businesses can use this route to transport goods to St. Petersburg via Chinese ports.
Deputy Chairman Maslov affirmed that FESCO currently faces no obstacles in increasing cargo transport capacity from Vietnam
to Vladivostok. FESCO also collaborates closely with the Russian Railways (RZhD) group and other enterprises to ensure that goods
from Vietnam can be swiftly transported to various regions in Russia. Additionally, FESCO has established an office in Vietnam to
streamline and expedite freight transport operations for Vietnamese businesses.
