On July 4th, the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), in collaboration with the Vietnam Human Resources Development Association for Logistics and relevant entities, organized a seminar titled "Enhancing the Capacity of the Logistics System and Seaports of Ho Chi Minh City towards Promoting Economic Growth and Regional Connectivity."

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan, Deputy Director of ITPC, Ho Chi Minh City possesses favorable conditions within ASEAN for trade and international transport due to its continuous economic integration. With this perspective, the city needs to invest promptly in the logistics sector to maintain and leverage its strength as a gateway for trade in the southern region, contributing significantly to the city's economy and the key economic region in the South.

For Ho Chi Minh City, logistics has been identified as a crucial sector with a long-lasting impact on sustainable economic development. The city has approved a project titled "Development of Ho Chi Minh City's Logistics Sector until 2025, with a Vision to 2030," focusing on economic development as per the 11th Party Congress Resolution of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

As a pivotal economic center in the South, Ho Chi Minh City aims to achieve a 15% growth rate in corporate logistics service revenue by 2025 and 20% by 2030. The contribution of logistics to the city's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) is targeted to be 10% by 2025 and 12% by 2030, thus aiding in reducing the national logistics costs compared to the country's GDP, which is expected to be around 10-15% by 2025.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan, as outlined in the approved project, the city plans to construct 8 logistics centers covering a total area of over 750 hectares. Additionally, projects with functions similar to logistics centers, such as cold storage facilities in Vinh Loc Industrial Park and e-commerce warehouses in Cu Chi, are being developed by businesses, demanding synchronized infrastructure connectivity, capital, construction experience, management, and operational capacity from investors.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Minh, Principal of the College of Foreign Economic Relations (Ministry of Industry and Trade), emphasized that logistics holds a significant role for Ho Chi Minh City. The city aspires to develop its seaports into synchronized, modern, high-quality service ports by 2030. By 2050, the aim is to establish a fully integrated and modern seaport on par with international standards, contributing to the city's and the world's maritime scene and meeting green port criteria.

To achieve these objectives, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Minh stated that the logistics industry needs to prepare in terms of human resources, science, technology, and techniques to efficiently construct and manage, fully utilize, and leverage the potential of seaports in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Echoing these viewpoints, during the seminar, speakers and scholars shared valuable insights and information regarding the development activities and directions of logistics in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces. Key topics included the application of e-commerce, digital transformation in logistics and port systems, green logistics solutions in sustainable development trends to meet the city's development goals, regional development linkages, the demand for port and logistics personnel to serve the specific goals of Ho Chi Minh City and the nation as a whole...
