International Logistics Hub
Hai Phong City has officially become a Strategic – Signature Sponsor of the FIATA World Congress 2025 (FWC 2025) – the largest event in the global logistics industry, organized by the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) and the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA). Hai Phong’s participation in FWC 2025 not only affirms the city’s pioneering role in shaping the national logistics development strategy but also opens up numerous opportunities to promote its potential, attract investment, and connect businesses with global partners, thereby reinforcing Vietnam’s position on the world logistics map.

As the largest trading gateway in northern Vietnam, Hai Phong – a seaport city with a history of more than 135 years – boasts over 126 km of coastline and more than 4,000 km² of sea surface area. It plays a key role in both national and international transport and trade.

The city owns a well-connected and synchronous transport infrastructure system, including five modes of transport: maritime, road, rail, air, and inland waterways – all facilitating interprovincial, interregional, and international connectivity.

Hai Phong has clearly defined its investment promotion strategy around three key economic pillars: high-tech industry, seaport-logistics, and tourism-commerce. With these major advantages, logistics has become a vital service sector in the city’s economic structure, acting as a driver for socio-economic development. The city has launched many programs and projects to boost logistics growth and has achieved significant and comprehensive results across various domains.

Notably, Hai Phong’s Lach Huyen deep-water port cluster, equipped to handle large vessels, serves as a vital gateway in the global supply chain and is emerging as a strategic transshipment hub for Northeast Asia. Additionally, Hai Phong is a pioneer in developing logistics centers, inland container depots (ICDs), dry ports, and integrated logistics services, making important contributions to the national import-export value chain.

Beyond logistics, Hai Phong also plays a leading role in Vietnam’s industrialization, modernization, and international integration, serving as a cornerstone in the Hanoi – Quang Ninh – Hai Phong development triangle and a key player in the Northern Coastal Region development strategy.

Over the years, the city has vigorously developed its core industries, such as manufacturing, shipbuilding, logistics, technology, and services. It has gradually emerged as an international trade hub, effectively connecting with major economies in the region and around the world.

Strategic leap with FWC 2025
According to the development plan, Hai Phong’s logistics network is expected to reach an area of about 1,700–2,000 hectares by 2030 and 2,200–2,500 hectares by 2040. This includes international and regional logistics centers in the Dinh Vu – Cat Hai area, city-level logistics hubs, specialized logistics centers, and support centers linked to major commercial gateways.

In addition, under Decision No. 140/QĐ-TTg by the Prime Minister approving the detailed planning for seaport groups, terminals, wharves, mooring buoys, water zones, and sea areas for the period 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050, the Hai Phong seaport system is projected to have 61–73 terminals by 2030, equivalent to 98–111 wharves, with a total length of 20 to 23.4 km.

Hai Phong is also a pioneer in promoting green transformation across logistics business operations, including transportation, seaport activities, warehousing, and related services.

At the same time, by 2030, Hai Phong Port is projected to handle between 175.4 million and 215.5 million tons of cargo annually, including 12.15 to 14.92 million TEUs of container cargo (excluding international transshipment containers), and passenger throughput ranging from 20,400 to 22,800 visitors. Looking ahead to 2050, the city aims to continue developing new terminals to meet growing cargo demand, with an average annual growth rate of 5% to 5.3%. The Lach Huyen terminal cluster will be completed with a scale of 20 container berths, while the Nam Do Son terminal area will be expanded in accordance with cargo volume growth.

As a key partner of FWC 2025, Hai Phong has the opportunity to present its future-oriented logistics development strategy, centered on green, modern, and globally integrated logistics. This includes breakthrough projects such as expanding port and warehouse infrastructure and building new logistics centers.

Notably, the city is actively promoting the development of a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) within the Southern Hai Phong Economic Zone, following the National Assembly’s recent approval of a pilot resolution allowing special mechanisms and policies for the city’s development, including the establishment of a free trade zone.

Hai Phong’s FTZ is expected to be developed into an international logistics and transshipment hub, modeled after global free port models such as Shanghai (China), Busan (South Korea), and Singapore. FWC 2025 will serve as a strategic platform for the city to showcase these flagship projects, attract strategic investors, and foster broader international cooperation.

For the business community in Hai Phong, FWC 2025 presents a unique opportunity to directly connect with over 1,200 delegates from more than 150 countries, including thousands of leading enterprises in logistics, transport, and international trade. Participation in thematic discussions, business matchmaking sessions, and the exhibition will allow local enterprises to stay updated on trends in digital transformation, green logistics, international standards, and explore new partnerships to expand into global markets.

As one of the strategic local partners of FWC 2025, Hai Phong will also receive priority in international communications and branding across global platforms. This presents a rare opportunity for the city to assert its position as not only a regional logistics hub but also a vital link in the global supply chain. Deep involvement in FWC 2025 will also bring long-term value in shaping Hai Phong’s image as a dynamic, modern, open port city ready to integrate more deeply with the world.
