Cao Bang Province, in coordination with the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China), held a ceremony to announce the upgrade of the Ta Lung (Vietnam) – Shui Kou (China) border gate pair to international border gate status, including the customs clearance route via Ta Lung II – Shui Kou bridge.
The Ta Lung – Shui Kou border gate is one of the traditional and long-standing border routes, closely linked to the history of trade, exchange, and friendly cooperation between the people on both sides of the border.
The decision by the two governments to upgrade the gate to international status is seen not only as opening up new development opportunities for trade, services, investment, and tourism but also as a step to enhance transportation connectivity, cultural exchange, and the traditional friendship between Cao Bang Province (Vietnam) and Guangxi (China).
In particular, the opening of the Ta Lung II – Shui Kou bridge for customs clearance demonstrates the determination of both sides to build a peaceful, friendly, and cooperative border, facilitating shared development. It will also help redirect transport flows, ease congestion at the main border gate, and improve customs clearance capacity.
Putting the Ta Lung II – Shui Kou bridge into operation is expected to boost import-export activities between Vietnam and China, expand cooperation in production, logistics services, and supporting industries.
Moreover, with its strategic location connecting northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam with the Guangxi region, the new customs clearance route will contribute to building a regional supply chain, enhancing the competitiveness of local businesses, creating jobs, stabilizing the livelihoods of border residents, and promoting economic growth.
Mr. Hoang Van Thach, Vice Chairman of the Cao Bang Provincial People’s Committee, affirmed that the official upgrade of the Ta Lung – Shui Kou border gate pair to international status marks an important milestone and signals a new phase in the comprehensive cooperation between Cao Bang Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
This event also contributes to deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, particularly in the context of the Vietnam–China People-to-People Exchange Year 2025.
Leaders of Cao Bang Province also emphasized that, with the strong direction from both governments, the close cooperation of ministries and agencies, and especially the efforts of the two localities (Cao Bang and Guangxi), the Ta Lung – Shui Kou international border gate will become a highlight of Vietnam–China border cooperation. It will serve as an important bridge for socio-economic development in both localities, while strengthening friendship, building political trust, and deepening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
